Spring Break

When I think of Spring Break, I think about shorts and t-shirts, warm sunshine, the first dip in the pool or playing at the beach. I think about sleeping in and no homework. It's like a sneak peak for Summer that is just around the corner. So, when we decided to spend most of Spring Break at the McCauley cabin, riding motorcycles and quads, we were a little surprised when we found snow on the ground when we showed up!

Ashlyn and Clara Luckily, Ashlyn had packed her hat in her purse and looked all ready for the weather!

The boys were anxious to checkout the trails and see if they were rideable or covered in snow. Jason, who never fails to amaze me, installed a cigarette lighter on his quad so he could have power to charge his cell phone while he rides. Genius! Jason, making a few adjustments to his cell phone holder before the first ride.Haley and Maryn

The trails were so much fun!!! A few places were blocked off by the snow, but most of it melted within a few days, leaving streams, puddles and MUD!Seeing if we could get across or through was just half the fun.MeJeffKristie

Some trails couldn't be explored because the water was just too deep. Checking the depth to see if we could crossJasonMe and JenKristie and Aaron

The guys found this gorgeous waterfall on one of the rides and brought us out to see it.Jen, Me and HaleyMe and Jason
Whizzing around the corners, splashing through the rivers and sloshing through the mud left everyone dirty, wet, tired and satisfied with smiles on our faces. Wes, Jeff and Jason Me and Aaron Me and Jen
When the guys weren't riding or recovering from a ride, they were talking about their last ride or waiting for the next ride!Garrett, Wes, Tyler and AaronHaley and Kristie
Even us girls got the riding fever! It felt so good to ride again! Jeff, Jessica and Jason each took a turn watching Paige so I could get out and play! Jen did a fun blog post on our girls ride. You can read it by clicking HERE

Ashlyn is just like her dad in so many ways! She couldn't wait for her turn to go out and ride!Jason took her on a few rides around the cabin And she even got to go out on the trails in the Mule.Jessica and Ashlyn waiting for Jason to take them out

When it wasn't her turn to ride, she pretended ride on her own or to take her friend Peyton for rides on the little quads that were left behind when the big boys went out.We did distract them with an attempted hike to the waterfall, but we never quite made it because the snow had covered the path and was too deep to trudge through. They didn't really seem to mind though. For them, the journey was the fun part, not the destination. It was a nice reminder to me to "enjoy the journey".Ashlyn and Gannon

Around the cabin, the kids did what kids are supposed to do- be creative and play outside! They built forts,Jessica

played with sticks and in the melting snowPeytonAshlyn

and played a good old fashioned game of cops and robbers using the Mule!Austin, Drew, Garret, and Tyler

In the evenings, we had a little bit of down time, watching movies and hanging out.Jason, Me, Ashlyn and Paige

Oh, who am I kidding? There wasn't really ever any down time! The kids parties like animals and we (the "adults") never saw our beds before 2 am! :-)Jessica, Garrett, Brynne, Tyler, Austin and DrewPeyton Jessica

We packed up on Friday night so we could get home and have a day to unpack and get ready for Easter. The guys wanted to go out on "just one more" big boys ride before we left. Jeff convinced Jen to come along. She a tough girl and can hold her own, but was going really fast and hit a deep rut. He hand jammed into the handlebars and she broke her wrist! She still managed to ride back to the cabin, but is now sporting a hot pink cast to remind us of our Spring Break fun!
